DEMOTIVATED? Why motivation DISAPPEARS after a while?
Does it happen very often that when you start something new, you are full of energy and excitement and after a while you lose your motivation? If that’s the case you might be making some of the motivation mistakes that I’ll be talking about today!
Personally I believe that motivation has a lot to do with your inner vibration, it’s about finding your why, the reason that makes you click inside! And after that you will need a lot of positive mental talk with yourself to make things happen!
Motivation is something really unstable, some days it is up, some days it is down! And what I usually see is that when we start a personal project, we tend to be in a very high level of motivation and after some time, it just goes flat! And this makes me wonder why does it happen? What kills the motivation?
I like to find answers for these kind of questions because once you understand the mechanism behind, you can use that knowledge and avoid the same things from happening again in the future!
So I did some research and I did some observations, and I came up with some findings! And that’s what I want to share with you, some things that, as humans beings, we tend to do that kill our motivation!
Comparison
This one it’s very tricky and hard to avoid! The first reason is because your ego is designed to do that! The ego is like an operational system that places you in this reality, and it does so by scanning the environment around you and comparing yourself to it so it can place you in this reality!
The second reason is because of social media! We are constantly under the impression that everyone’s lives around us are perfect and beautiful, and that’s not true! It is an illusion! Everyone has their own difficulties and challenges as well, we just don’t get to know about them!
Comparison will happen and it’s very important that you learn how to deal with the voices inside your head! If you give it space and and allow your inner dialogues to crush you, “why does he have it and I don’t? Why did she get that and I didn’t?, it is just going to let you down!
We are all very unique as human beings and we all have different journeys, so it’s not fair that compare yourself to others! Next time you catch your mind doing that, just shift your awareness and look for examples that inspire you! This change in attitude will certainly be more helpful!
Energy Burnout
This one happens very often! People get really excited about their projects and they start to do a thousand things at same time, and after some time, they’re pretty much back to zero! But why?
Think about this like a marathon, if in the beginning you give your best energy and you push yourself to the limits, most likely you’ll not be able to finish the race, right? You will get burned out! The same principle applies here!
Another thing that might be happening here, when you place so much effort, energy and action, probably you expect immediate results on the same level, and that’s not how it works! Consistency and time are key elements to get results, especially if you are setting yourself up for a long journey, like opening your own business or shifting to a healthier lifestyle.
It’s better if you pace yourself from the beginning and work on one goal at a time, so you can have energy for the whole journey!
Fear of Failure
Fear is the worst emotion you can have, some people even say that the opposite of love is not hate, is fear! It’s part of your primitive brain and it’s responsible to make you freeze! This brain response is known as freeze, fight and flight mechanism, which means that when you feel threatened, first you freeze, then you decide if you will fight or flight, runaway!
The biggest part of our fears nowadays exist only inside our minds, they are not real, they are imaginary! And they do indicate a reality that we don’t prefer!
If you have fear of failure, you have to work on it because it might kill your motivation even before you start! Or it might freeze you for a long time before you take the decision to make it happen or even to give up!
A good way to work on it is to ask yourself what is the worst thing that might happen. Most of the time when we face our fears, they simply disappear! Another way is to replace your fear with the “I can do it!” attitude, and believe in yourself!
Do you know why kids learn better and faster than us? Because they don’t have the fear area in their brains yet! So they’re not afraid of judgments, they’re not afraid of making mistakes, they embrace the process and they learn and grow with it! So keep that in mind!
Expectations
I always say that the more expectations we build, more chances that we will get frustrated! And it is proportional because the higher the expectations, the higher the frustrations if they happen! When you talk about motivation, watch out for these two traps: expecting perfection and expecting recognition from other people!
Perfection comes with time and practice, that’s how you master something! So if you are just starting, don’t be too hard on yourself, otherwise you might get frustrated, lose your motivation and stop the learning process!
The same might happen if you wait for recognition from other people, you have no control over it, this recognition might never happen and if it doesn’t, you might lose your motivation and stop your progress!
So if you are losing your motivation, check which expectations were not fulfilled and readjust your mindset before you proceed!
