How to INCREASE and IMPROVE your MOTIVATION! (5 tips)
Would you like to improve your motivation but you don’t know how? Today I will be teaching some ways to work with it, so if you would like to learn more, keep on reading!
On my previous post, I wrote about willpower, and maybe you are wondering what’s the difference between willpower and motivation? That’s quite simple to answer, willpower is the ability to control your actions and motivation is the driving force behind them!
Motivation and willpower walk together and they come from the same place, your subconscious mind! It controls your behaviors and actions until you consciously work on them, and this post has five tips and hints about how to improve your motivation.
1 – Find your Why
When you are looking for your why, the reason to do something, don’t be vague, be specific! And pay attention if you can feel an energetic change inside you! The idea of achieving that should make you feel excited inside, and the reason has to be connected with your wills and needs, not with other people’s desires!
Very often people expect things from us because they have their own wills and needs and usually they are not compatible with ours. If your “why” doesn’t switch on a light inside you, probably it won’t work!
2 – Create a Vision
When you find your why, create a vision, a mental construction as real as possible! In a way that when you imagine, you feel as if that was already happening in your life!
You can also make a vision board on your wall and put images related with the things you want to achieve, and look at it every day! It’s a good way to support and reinforce your inner vision!
There are a few reasons to create this vision, the first one is because the journey is full of ups and downs and you will not always be motivated. In the days you are feeling down, bring the vision in your mind to remind yourself how important that is for you and to motivate yourself to stay on the path!
The second reason is because your mind doesn’t like what is not familiar with, so when you visualize, you help your mind to get used to the things you want to achieve! Besides, you will be communicating to your subconscious mind the things that you want and it will start to help you!
The last reason why visualization is important is connected to the law of attraction and manifestation! That’s a bit more complex because it has to do with quantum physics, parallel realities and shift your life to the reality that you prefer! All of it is has a lot to do with energies so you need to work with the centres in your body that have the biggest concentration of energy, your brain and your heart! It’s very important that you can see and feel as if it was already real because it will help you to shift in the reality that you want!
3 – Work on your Limiting Beliefs
If you say you can do something or you cannot, either way you are right! And you cannot keep yourself motivated if you don’t truly believe that you can achieve that goal. Besides, you also have to verify your beliefs and identify which ones are helping you and which ones are limiting your potential!
For example, let’s say that your goal is to have a healthier eating habit and at same time you have a belief that healthy food is tasteless, can you see the lack of compatibility? While you don’t align your goals with your beliefs, you will not get anywhere!
Make a list, in one side write down all the beliefs that empower you to achieve the things you want and in the other, put all your limiting beliefs that go against your goals and work on them! If you don’t do that will be nearly impossible to achieve the things that you want!
4 – Make a S.M.A.R.T. Plan
The S.M.A.R.T plan is used by many companies and businesses around the world and you can also use the same format for your personal goals.
S.M.A.R.T stands for:
S – Specific: Be specific, what’s your goal?
M – Measurable: Can you mesure your progress?
A – Achievable: Is it possible to achieve your goal?
R – Realistic: Is your goal realistic?
T – Time: How long for you to achieve your goal?
S.M.A.R.T. plan is a great tool for you to work on your goals, make an actions plan, measure your progress and keep yourself motivated!
If your goal is too big and full of other things inside that you need to achieve in order to complete it, I don’t recommend you to look at everything at once because you will feel overwhelmed and you might lose your motivation! Break down your goal into smaller steps and apply the S.M.A.R.T. plan only on the first ones, and as soon as you complete them, you will move to the next ones until you complete your main goal!
5 – Take Action
When you have a clear “why” to do something, have created a full vision about what you want to achieve, have worked on your limiting beliefs and on your action plan, take action!
You cannot rely only on feeling motivated to start to work towards your goals because it’s a very unstable feeling that comes and goes during the whole process. Consistency is the key! After sometime, regular actions will bring results and the results will help you to bring your motivation back! Don’t underestimate the power small actions have in the long run!
