Is your MIND controlling YOU? Or are you CONTROLLING it?
I always say that most of our suffering comes from our mind and from our thoughts, if you agree with me, for sure this post is for you because today I’ll be talking about the most common mental attitudes that bring a lot of struggles to people!
Have you ever heard about Wim Hoffman, the iceman? He is known for staying almost naked in temperatures below zero, and he does so only by shifting his mental focus and his breathing.
Probably the most inspiring people that you ever met, or at least heard a speech from, are the ones that went through a lot of difficulties, sometimes even physical disabilities, and they managed to shift the direction of their lives because they had a positive mental attitude in the face of challenges.
Your mind is like a super powerful car and in order to take total advantage of its powers, you really need to learn how to drive it! Are you controlling your mind or is your mind controlling you?
If you have some of the mental attitudes that I will cover today, probably your mind is in control and as a consequence, it might make you suffer a bit or maybe even a lot!
To Focus on Scarcity
Where do you tend to place your focus, on the things that you have or the ones that you lack? If you focus on the things that you lack, just know that the universe is quite generous and it will serve you more of anything that you place your attention, so basically by doing that, you just create more scarcity in your life!
Besides, when you do that, as a consequence you might have some negative like dissatisfaction, greed, jealousy or even envy of what other people have and you don’t.
Train your mind to focus on the things that you already have because that will give you a feeling of appreciation and gratitude, which will raise your vibration and help you to create a more abundant life!
To Have Attachments
We all have attachments and they can be related to pretty much anything: objects, people, situation, beliefs, stories… the list is long!
And the problem about it is that nothing is permanent on this physical world where we live, eventually everything comes to an end, even life itself! So if you don’t know how to let go, you will suffer a lot!
Besides, to hold something that doesn’t serve any purpose in your life is like carrying a very heavy baggage, which will slow down your progress on your journey!
To Resist Changes
The mind does not like changes! It’s normal to resist, but that’s not necessarily good for people! Especially when they don’t want to break up a relationship that’s not good, get out of a job or even when they keep looking to the past instead of looking ahead to try to create a better future.
Did you know that not even physical death can eliminate attachment and resistance to change? Most haunted houses are so because the person didn’t want to leave the place that they spent their whole life! Karma between two souls is also created this way, when people get attached to the idea that someone hurt them and must pay for it.
In the evolution theory, the species that survive are not the strongest, are the ones that adapt better and faster. Adaptation is an important skill and we all need it! changes are one of the few constants in the whole universe and if you resist the process, the suffering will persist!
It is a matter of mental acceptance, so next time you catch yourself resisting something new, switch your mental attitude and embrace the process!
To Have the Need to Control
We all have this obsession about control, but in reality, how many things can we actually control in life? Besides our own thoughts and our own actions, not much, right?
So why do I see so often people wasting their mental energies with things that they cannot control? This includes politics, governments, other people’s choices and actions, the future, or anything that belongs to a system, like schools and working environment.
If you keep focusing on this kind of thing, most likely you will be complaining and it will lower your vibration. The language of the universe is frequency and vibration, so if you keep yourself so negative, what do we expect in return?
Majority of things that happen in life, we cannot control, but we can definitely control the way we react to it!
So now I will finish this post and leave you with the serenity prayer:
“May you have serenity to accept the things you cannot change, courage to change the ones you can, and wisdom to know the difference!”
