The EGO during the SPIRITUAL AWAKENING! (8 traps to AVOID)
Today I am going to share with you some ego traps that can happen during the spiritual awakening process. Some of them are quite impossible to avoid! But my intention is to help you to raise your awareness, so you don’t get stuck in them for too long!
1 – Do you think your beliefs are better than other people’s?
Spirituality is a belief and requires faith! To say that you are spiritual is not different than saying that you are Catholic, Muslim, Hindu, or any other religion on this planet!
The things you believe are your personal truth and they work for you! But be open to the possibility that they may not be the absolute truth!
You have no idea how many times I’ve asked myself “what if everything that I believe isn’t true?”, and my conclusion is: IT DOESN’T MATTER! As long as it helps me be a better person and have a better life, it’s serving its purpose! Faith helps in difficult times and it’s part of your life’s philosophy, which defines your actions!
Personally, I think the creation and the creator are super complex and, as human beings, we are not in a good position to fully understand them! So there is no reason to fight over faith, and to think that what you believe is right, and what others believe is wrong. No one on this planet knows what the absolute truth is! Especially when it’s about soul matters!
2 – Do you think you are more spiritually evolved than other people?
Another trap your ego might enjoy is to think that you are superior because you like spirituality, and this can lead you to believe that you are more spiritually evolved than other people! Only your ego talks like that, comparing yourself to others, your soul doesn’t!
This kind of attitude along with “I am right” has already created many fights and wars on this planet, so please avoid them!
Each person is exploring a different topic, I can choose spirituality, you can choose something else, and that’s okay! It is all a matter of experience, there is no right or wrong, better or worse, they are all important and equally valid for the totality of creation!
The human mind is linear, but I don’t see evolution as a straight line up. We all have skills that are highly evolved and we all have room for improvement, things we still need to develop! No one is better than anyone else, we’re just on different journeys!
3 – Do you want other people to awaken spiritually too?
When you’re on a spiritual journey it’s normal to want to wake up other people so they can see all the wonderful things that you’re seeing! But this is useless!
People only awaken spiritually when they are ready, you cannot force it and if you try, the only thing you will achieve is to waste your energy, get frustrated and irritate others!
4 – Do your spiritual labels push you away or bring you closer to other people?
Labels are another thing that you really need to be careful about! On this kind of journey, it’s normal to identify with certain names like lightworkers, starseeds, empaths… but don’t let them define you, they’re just labels that your ego needs!
If you use them in a positive way, like finding your tribe or getting to know yourself better, that’s fine! But if they become a reason for separation from other people, then that’s a problem because spirituality is not about separation, it’s about integration!
Your soul is the presence of the “I am”, if you complete this sentence with any other name, it belongs to your ego!
5 – Are your spiritual rules limiting or enhancing your human experience?
In addition to the labels, be careful with the rules as well! I’ve seen many spiritual people getting trapped in both, labels and rules! You know when people say things like:
•I can’t drink this
• I can’t eat that
• It lowers my vibration
• It affects my energy
When you see, you have a whole list and that can limit you a lot! You came here to have a full human experience, your soul could be anywhere else in creation, but it is here and now, so make the best of it!
6 – Do you isolate yourself or avoid people who have not yet awakened?
When you go through a spiritual awakening, it’s normal to go through a phase of isolation where you put yourself in a bubble, and that’s because you shift your attention from the physical to the spiritual reality, so you can understand things better. It’s a very transformative phase that will change the way you relate to the world and to the people around you!
Sometimes it’s a little difficult because people don’t understand what you’re going through, and while it can be comfortable to be in your own corner, please don’t get stuck there for too long! Once you settle into your awakening, get back to socialize, it’s easier for you to understand people than for them to understand you because you’ve been in their shoes before.
As I already said, don’t try to wake them up, they will see how much you have changed and maybe that will inspire them to change as well! You have the rest of eternity to be in the spirit world, and this life in comparison to it, is very short! So focus here and now!
7 – Do you use positive energy to camouflage your problems?
Another thing that you need to be careful is about the excess of positive energy, especially if you are forcing or faking it! You know when things are not going well and people keep saying “I’m fine, it’s all right, it’s not affecting me”, that’s what I’m talking about!
As human beings, we all have ups and downs, good and bad days, it’s part of the experience here. Spiritual knowledge is tested when you go through hard times because that’s when you should be using and applying it! Next time you’re tempted to hide behind the mask of positivity, just remember that it’s a great opportunity for you to practice your spirituality!
8 – Messiah Complex: Do you feel the need to save people or the world?
That’s the last trap I’m going to mention today, and it’s the most dangerous of all, the messiah complex! If you have any kind of idea that you’re here to change the world or save people, get over it as soon as possible!
In the past, I have been asked a few times in spiritual communities “what are you doing to help the world?” and my answer has always been “I am helping myself”. When you work to improve yourself, you help the collective consciousness, you break through toxic and dysfunctional patterns that have been passed down through many generations, and you set an example for other people.
When you become your most authentic self, you impact a lot of people in your path, and very often you are not even aware of it! This becomes a “snowball effect”, which ends up being a huge contribution to the world!
You don’t have to do anything great unless you have a huge inner calling, then it’s a different story! Some people can work with healing, others become a spiritual teacher, and others (like me) start a YouTube journey to share the knowledge!
