What you FEEL when you DETOX your BODY! (detox side effects)

If you are considering to sign up for a detox program but you are not really sure what to expect as side effects, on this post I will talk about some possible reactions on the physical, mental and energetic levels.

Of course I cannot talk for everybody because every body is unique and very different one from another, so the reactions might differ, but there are some general things that tend to happen, especially if you have an unhealthy lifestyle.

We don’t realize but our food is full of chemical products nowadays and they highly addictive, so when you decide to do a detox, it’s like going for an eating rehab, the bigger the gap between your eating habits and a healthy lifestyle, the bigger will be the withdrawal symptoms.

Yes, I’m talking about withdrawal! Maybe during the first days you you will not feel very well and stay a bit down, especially if your lifestyle is unhealthy, but don’t feel discouraged because things will get better.

Physical Reactions

In the beginning you might have some physical symptoms like a bit of headache, brain fog, dizziness and you might even feel fatigued or de-energized. For sure your digestive system will change because you will be completely changing your diet. Actually that’s the first thing you will notice and you might even go to the toilet more often. But don’t worry, these symptoms last only a couple of days.

Why does it happen? Why something that should make you feel so good, will make you feel so bad initially? To understand, look at the body as if it was a machine and the food you eat is the fuel, your whole system is used to function in a certain way and when you start a detox, you will change your diet overnight and that will shake the mechanism. It takes some time to settle down and get optimized!

After you go through the adjustment period, then yes, you will start to see the benefits of the practice. You will feel a gradual increase on your wellbeing and by the end of the program, you can expect to feel full of energy, with a lot of mental clarity, physical strength and your digestive system will be functioning way better. Even your skin will be more radiant, it’s amazing how healthy eating habits (or nor) get reflected on it.

When you go back to your normal eating habits, you will have a different experience with certain foods, even the ones that you were used to eat before. Your taste buds will be much cleaner and some flavors, like salt and sugar, might overload your senses.

Many of the things we eat is because we are used to, not necessarily because we like them. It’s good to take a break from your regular diet so you can redefine which food you actually like and which ones you want to keep on your diet. Maybe you will finish the detox and decide to make a longer term commitment, like eliminating something unhealthy from your life.

Mental Reactions

Before you start a detox, please make sure you have the proper mindset. Have clear for yourself the answers to these questions:

Why do you want to do a detox?
What do you expect to achieve?
How can the practice benefit you?

Honestly I’ve seen many people doing fasting and detox with the wrong mindset and it doesn’t work! They feel miserable and they create hell in people’s lives around.

During the whole detox, you can expect a lot of mental resistance because your mind doesn’t like changes, it doesn’t like what is not familiar. Most likely you will have mental battles everyday, but look at it as a good opportunity to strengthen your mind, the part of it that fights for change. The mind is like a muscle and it needs to be exercised!

Another thing that I have to mention is about emotions, we have a lot of them stored inside our bodies and when you do a detox, you are detoxifying your liver which is the organ where “anger” is stored. Don’t be surprised if you have old memories coming into your mind, especially the ones charged with hatred, or if you just have emotions without apparent reasons. That’s normal because a lot of old energies are released from your body.

Spiritual Reactions

There is a reason why all religions on planet Earth practice some sort of fasting, food grounds you and the lighter you eat, the more you can elevate your mind and your energy. I’ve done a two days water fast and I very impressed with the result! The part of the mind that never stops, was quiet! Meditation became heaven, literally!

Another benefit for your soul is the vital force that you will absorb from the fresh food, like fruits and vegetables. All energy from this kind of food penetrates your aura and that’s why they leave you energized.

Despite all the good things about detox, I have to mention that if you have a physical disease, you need to choose a detox that is appropriated to you. For example, if you are diabetic, fruit juices are not going to work well.
